Do It Green! Minnesota

Our booth was located right in front of the Jade Asian restaurant. According to their sign behind our booth, it's their first anniversary at Global Market!

Yesterday, Scent from Nature attended the Do It Green! Minnesota craft fair. It was a great success! Many thanks to all of our new customers who are trying our candles for the first time and know that we greatly appreciate all of our repeat customers. As we mentioned at the fair, if you need more candles please visit one of the wonderful health and environment supporting stores that sell our candles. These locations are listed in a previous post. If in the Twin Cities area, you will find them at your local food coops and Twin Cities Green. If you have a store you would like to see sell our candles, please drop us a line and let us know! If the store supports our mission, we'll gladly contact them.

Our booth was located next to a wonderful business called zerOw Bags. They craft "cool bags made from recycled plastics." Not only are their bags "cool" but the business owners are the nicest folks. Check out their website!

Midtown Global Market

We spent Saturday selling our Scent from Nature; 100% Pure Beeswax Candles at Midtown Global Market on Lake and Chicago in Minneapolis today. The building in which the market operates used to be the old Sears tower and has since been converted into this wonderful cultural market with food and gifts from all over the world. The upper floors have been converted to condominiums.

The atmosphere is festive and there is often live music being performed in the market. Local artists come to perform anything from folk to latin music. You'll find stores in the market selling all types of wonderful ethic and hand crafted goods.

We will be selling our candles next at Global Market, the first weekend in December.

Tour de Farm's Final Event

Star Thrower Farm

The Icelandic sheep and the llamas that protect them.

Scott down on the farm. He's got the look!

We catch J.D. between courses

Dinner is served in a 105 year old barn. Tables lit by beeswax candlelight.

We have been supplying our Scent from Nature; 100% Pure Beeswax Candles to the five Tour de Farm events this year and they have been a wonderful success! Bravo to Scott Pampuch of Corner Table Restaurant for his efforts!

We were fortunate enough to be invited to attend the final event that took place at Star Thrower Farm, a farm specializing in Icelandic sheep grown for their wool, meat and milk. J.D. Fratzke of The Strip Club Meat and Fish was the guest chef and, as usual, created the most excellent menu. The food was fabulous!

Beeswax Pick Up!

Here it is!

Chuck carefully loads our precious beeswax into what we also use as our sled dog truck in the fall and winter! You can read more about the fun we have with our sled dogs at Points Unknown.

Now is the time of year when our beekeeper friends south of Gaylord, Minnesota have removed the honey boxes (AKA Supers) off of the beehives and are done extracting the honey and processing the beeswax. This means it's ready for us to pick up!

We're very excited about this year's wax. It is some of the lightest and most naturally fragrant we have had thanks to those little honey bees and thanks to all of the thoughtful care our beekeepers have taken when processing it. If you remember from an earlier post, our Scent from Nature; 100% Pure Beeswax Candles are made from the very thin layer of wax that the bees make to cap each cell of honey. This is precious stuff!

Little Falls Craft Fair

Last weekend was the Little Falls Craft Fair where we shared a booth with family members. Mom makes National Award Winning quilts and Dad turns salvaged wood products that include bowls and candle holders to wooden pen and pencil sets. The fair was very well organized and everyone we met along the way was extremely nice and helpful. We did learn quickly, however, that this is not the proper venue for our handcrafted items and we will be on the lookout for more "Green" oriented venues from which to sell our Scent from Nature; 100% Pure Beeswax Candles. The handmade quilts and unique wood turned items will be better placed at art fairs. Mom has even considered getting an account on Ebay!

Little Falls, MN Craft Fair

Being that this is the first fair of this size we have attended, we wanted to make sure we had an idea of what our display would look like prior to the event. After moving things around here and over there, I think this one will work!

It is an exciting fall for us as we will be attending the Little Falls, Minnesota Craft Fair for the first time and selling our Scent from Nature; 100% Pure Beeswax Candles. The fair is this weekend, September 12th-13th and it is the biggest event of this kind in Minnesota, drawing over 100,000 people!

Look for us near the courthouse!

Why Beeswax?

Our Scent from Nature 6 inch and 10 inch taper candles

"We have chosen to fill our hives with honey and wax, thus furnishing mankind with the two noblest of things, which are sweetness and light." Jonathan Swift

HEALTH. Most candles are petroleum and meatpacking wastes that are toxic when burned, scented with poisonous synthetic oils, and marketed to "freshen" our precious air. The black soot is as harmful to our health as tobacco smoke. Aromatherapy candles also have health hazards.

Beeswax is extremely different. Honey bees make beeswax from the nectar of flowers so it is all natural, uniquely non-toxic, hypoallergenic and has a mild and sweet honey aroma. A perfectly renewable resource, beeswax is made by female worker bees (all worker bees are female). After they have engorged themselves with nectar and lay resting, flakes of beeswax are secreted from their abdomen. Yes, beeswax is a by-product. A by-product of the bees' honey making process! They mold this wax and shape it to fit perfectly over the tops of each little honey comb cell to cover either their honey or the Queen's eggs. Scent from Nature; 100% Pure Beeswax Candles are made from the fine layer of beeswax covering each honey cell but only after the bees have had their fill of honey!

Producing negative ions as it burns, beeswax is healthy and actually cleans our air of odors, pollens, smoke and other allergens and hazards. It leaves our air fresher just like a rain storm. They are the perfect candles for those with sensitivities to chemicals, scents or allergens. Studies have shown that burning beeswax candles:

  • Improves air quality
  • Improves sleep
  • Enhances the immune system
  • Provides relief from hay fever and allergies
  • Allows for less severe asthma attacks
  • Improves concentration
  • Allows for the balancing of hormones
  • Provides a natural detoxification
  • Provides a sense of well being

Beeswax is precious stuff!

VALUE. Beeswax burns brighter, hotter, cleaner and much longer than chemical and vegetable waxes. When properly handcrafted and burned, beeswax candles are smokeless and drip less. They may seem more expensive at first glance, however when measured by completeness of burn and overall burn time, beeswax candles are usually more cost effective to burn.

BEWARE: A candle may legally be labeled "beeswax" if it contains as little as 10% beeswax! If it doesn't say 100% or PURE on the label, then it most likely is not. Also, beware of colored beeswax candles and aromatherapy beeswax candles. Adding anything to a 100% pure beeswax candle can negate many of its natural benefits.

BEAUTY. There is a simple beauty to a 100% Pure Beeswax Candle - to touch and to smell. We are reminded of our connection to the natural world when presented with and when burning a thoughtfully handcrafted beeswax candle as they support health and sustainable practices. Choose health. Choose sweetness and light. Choose pure beeswax.

Why 100% Pure BEESWAX?

Because we care about our health and our world.

Pass it on!
